23 March
My dear Walewski,
I hope that the commission may arrive at some satisfactory result today, but whether it does or not I think it most desireable in the common interest that Cowley and I and the Austrian P.P° should have a meeting with you before the next conference, otherwise and if there is not a clear understanding upon some points left for discussion and particulary a to matters of form I foresee thate there may be confusion and much risk of not coming to the sort of settlement which should be satisfactory to all parties.
If you agree you will perhaps appoint the next conference at 2 o'clock and let us come to you before that time.
Ever yours
Clarendon
