April 1 1856

My dear Walewski,
I beg your pardon for not having sooner returned M. de [...] 's dispatch. You may be sure that I shall write to Howden [?] but in the meantime it is only fair to him to send you the copy of a dispatch which I received from him two days ago.
Pray remember the two points upon which it is so important that the Emperor should speak to Orloff. First Poland and the answer that would be given to us if the question is brought forward in the congress and second that Ismael should be given up in good order.
I hope you told the Emperor that Palmerston is entirely satisfied with the treaty.
Ever yours
Clarendon
